Hi David,

yes that is an option - however, the direct connection to Coot is just
so much nicer and easier ... if it works.

It should actually work fairly out-of-the box - here are some
pointers:

 * any browser should initially ask you what to do with the content
served to it by the SHARP server (httpd) - at least when it
encounters this unknown type (checmical/x-coot) for the first time.

 * you should then tell your browser to open it using

     $BDG_home/bin/helpers.x-coot

(where $BDG_home is the directory where you installed
   SHARP/autoSHARP).

This should fire up Coot directly with all maps/models loaded.

There are a variety of things that can go wrong or would make your
life difficult. Among them are

 - looking at *.html files using the file:// URI and not the http://
   version

 - using a browser that we haven't tested (yet), e.g. Internet
Explorer, Safari, Mozilla/Firefox in Linux distribution modified
   versions ...

Each browser and/or browser version implements the standard
mime-type handling differently it seems. If you never got asked
what to do about the chemical/x-coot mime-type, then it will be
   very difficult to debug this.

We tend to stick with Mozilla/Firefox, but there is no reason why
   other browsers shouldn't work.

 - wrong configurations in $BDG_home/bin/helpers.local (note: under
normal circumstances this should have been setup correctly during
   installation).

Cheers

Clemens
